What is the best digital product to sell on a blog?

A question I get asked a lot is, “What is the best digital product to sell on a blog?” That’s actually quite a hard question to answer. Because in truth, there is no one ‘perfect’ digital product. A question I get asked a lot is, “What is the best digital product to sell on a blog?”
That’s actually quite a hard question to answer.
Because in truth, there is no one ‘perfect’ digital product.
As I’ve explained before, it’s incredibly hard to be successful only selling one product.
If you only sell one low-cost product, like an ebook, you need a huge amount of traffic to be successful.
And if you only sell one high-ticket product, like a signature program, it’s incredibly difficult to sell ANY because it’s nigh on impossible to take someone from zero to spending $$$$ with you in one leap.
That is why I strongly recommend building a product ladder.
A much better question then is, “What is the best digital product to START with?”
And that has a much more straightforward answer.
For many reasons, an ebook is hands down the best first product.
Why an ebook is the best digital product to START with…
It is well known that the hardest thing in the digital product world is getting someone to move from subscriber to customer – to move from Rung 1 to Rung 2 of the product ladder. It’s much easier to get someone who has bought from you once to buy from you again.
The best way to make that step of going from subscriber to customer as easy and friction free as possible is to offer an entry level product at a very low ‘impulse purchase’ price. (For even better results, combine this with a discount and a deadline.)
Once someone has bought from you once (and assuming your ebook is good!) they will be much, much more likely to buy from you again in the future… and trust you enough to buy higher priced products from you when you launch them, precisely because you’ve proved yourself with a lower priced product.
But there is another reason…
It’s not just your potential customers who have psychological barriers to overcome… it’s also you!
If you have never created a digital product before, you’ll almost certainly have some mental resistance to creating one…
You may be worried about wasting your time creating something that won’t sell.
You may be worried about selling ANYTHING to your audience.
You may wonder if you are even able to create something that people would be willing to pay for.
You may think you don’t have the design skills or tech skills to create something that is worth people’s money.
You may think people in your niche are only interested in free content and won’t buy anything.
You may think creating a successful digital product is too hard or too time consuming.
And if you don’t think you have any of those hang-ups… ask yourself why you have not already created a successful digital product.
If you’ve had ‘create digital product’ on your to do list for a long time and haven’t ever gotten round to it, it’s almost certainly because of some sort of mindset block!
How an ebook helps you overcome these barriers
An ebook is pretty much the easiest product to make and will help you overcome your psychological barriers for 5 key reasons…
1) You are used to writing blog posts and, in essence, an ebook is just one long blog post attractively presented.
2) An ebook is relatively quick and easy to make, so you’ll worry less about wasting your time / tech hurdles / etc.
3) An ebook is cheap to make, so you’ll worry less about wasting your money.
4) You’re only going to be asking for a small amount of money, so it will help you overcome any hang-ups around asking people for money, or the willingness of your audience to buy things.
5) Because the price is low and you are presenting it as a big discount off the usual price, you are likely to get a good flurry of sales in your launch, which will give you a huge boost and make you more confident that you can sell higher priced digital products in the future.
And, once you’ve created and sold your first digital product, those initial sales will give you a huge burst of motivation to create your next product. There is nothing quite like making sales to boost your confidence and motivation levels!

A ROADMAP TO DIGITAL PRODUCT SUCCESS…
Building a successful digital product business requires a lot of moving parts: market research, email marketing, product creation, pricing strategy, building a product ladder, writing a high converting sales page, nurture sequences, sales sequences, evergreen sales funnels, tripwires, beta launches, flash sales, gathering testimonials, digital product specific SEO and more!
When you join the DPSA, you let me worry about all of the moving parts, and you just focus on following the next step on the roadmap, knowing I’ve got everything planned and happening at exactly the right time…
DPSA is for you, if you want to…
👉 Earn more from the traffic you already have: Digital product RPMs are considerably better than RPMs from ads, affiliates and sponsored posts.
👉 Stop worrying about whether you’ll be wiped out in the next Google algorithm update: Because you don’t need those crazy-high pageviews, selling digital products makes you A LOT less dependent on Google.
👉 Be ahead of the curve: If future Google updates are bad for bloggers, guess what every blogger will be doing to try and get back the income they have lost? Get ahead of the curve by starting NOW!
👉 Have a less precarious business: If you get the majority of your traffic from Google and the majority of your income from ads, you don’t need me to tell you that is a very precarious place to be… Diversifying into digital products reduces risk and increases income – so it’s a win-win!
👉 Have a lot of fun along the way: Join a community of like-minded bloggers and online business owners who are all working towards the same goal!
