What is an SEO Audit?

An SEO audit is a way of helping you figure out how you can improve your blog’s SEO. You will work systematically through the different areas of SEO, identifying things that you need to fix on your blog. When you have completed the audit you will have a list of everything you need to work on.

Once you have completed your SEO Audit, you will need to make a plan of when and how to fix the problems you have identified. (Don’t worry – I provide help with that at the end of the audit!)

Why do an SEO Audit?

An SEO Audit is a like a health checkup for your blog. It will help you identify problems on your website that are stopping your blog from performing as well as it could in search engine results.

If you carry out an SEO Audit on your website and then work hard to fix all the problems you find, you should start to rank higher in search engine results.

As a result of ranking higher in search engine results, you will get more search engine traffic and be able to earn more money from your blog.

When should you do an SEO Audit?

If you have never done an SEO Audit then you should definitely do one ASAP! Once you’ve carried out your SEO Audit, you should then fix the problems your audit has highlighted.

After that you should carry out an SEO Audit on your blog at least once a year to identify any issues or problems that could be preventing your blog from ranking as highly as it should.

You should also carry out an SEO Audit if your search engine traffic has suddenly dropped. An SEO Audit is a great way to figure out what the problem is and identify things to work on in order to improve your SEO and recover that lost traffic!

What to do with the results of your DIY SEO Audit?

As I’ve previously mentioned, the goal of an SEO Audit is to identify SEO problems on your blog that need to be fixed.

Once you’ve completed your SEO Audit, you will then need to make a plan of how you will start to fix the problems and issues that your audit has thrown up.

And then you will need to work systematically through your plan to fix the problems.

What will be the results of conducting an SEO Audit?

Just doing an SEO audit on its own will not achieve anything by itself!

However, once you have conducted an SEO audit, you will have a personalised list of everything you need to fix on your website in order to make your blog as SEO friendly as possible.

If you do an SEO Audit AND THEN do all the work to fix your blog, you should start to see a significant improvement in your search engine rankings and pageviews.

This is unlikely to happen overnight, though! I always advise my readers and students that, while you may see some results of SEO work almost immediately, it can take 3-6 months to see real results.

However, the lovely thing about working on your SEO is it keeps on giving you good results long after you have completed the work!

Will I have to pay for any expensive SEO tools in order to complete this SEO Audit?

No! All the tools you will need are completely free.

You won’t need any expensive tools to fix the SEO problems on your blog either.
